FAA certifies Garmin vision technology - Kansas City Business Journal:

The company, a unit of Olathe-baseed (Nasdaq: GRMN), said in a Monday release that it hadreceived supplemental-types certification for Garmin Synthetic Visiohn Technology, which integrates with the company's G100p0 avionics suite. SVT displays obstacles and traffic in three dimensions on the G10009 primary flight display to replicate what pilotsz would see on aclear day. "Garmin'z SVT brings an unprecedented level of integration and awareness to pilotasof G1000-equipped aircraft," Gary Kelley, Garmin'se marketing vice president, said in the "SVT transforms the cockpit by accurately displayin g synthetic terrain, flight hazards, flight path markerd and highway-in-the-sky on the (primary flight display) so that the pilotr maintains excellent airborne situational awareness even when flyiny in conditions of reduced visibility or darkness.
This results in reducedc pilot workload and safer SVT also includes features that predictrthe aircraft's flight path and help pilots stay on course. The technologh is expected to be availableon G900X-equipped aircraft by July and on the G100 0 King Air C90 retrofirt in 2009; integration into existing G1000 systems or G1000-equipped aircraft that haven't yet been delivered is bein g coordinated with aircraft manufacturers. "SVT is a retrofitable and we are working with OEMs to develop a proces s whereby customers will have the option of addinhg SVT to their aircraftf with verylittle downtime," Kelley said in the Garmin ranks No.
