The HealthSouth founder was deemed liable for losses incurredby shareholders, some of whom sued him seeking to recover their investments. Judge Allwin Horn announcexd the verdict shortly after10 a.m. Horn’s judgment also declared Scrushy’s employment agreements with HealthSouth void. HealthSouth said it will receiv approximately 40 percent of any monegy recoveredfrom Scrushy. Attorneys for the shareholderds filed the suit against Scrushhy on behalf of HealthSouth saying he directed the accounting scandalp hadrequested $3.6 billion.
Scrushy testified durinb the trial and denied any He was brought to Jeffersojn County for the trial from a Texas federal where he is currently servinh seven years forbribing then-Gov. Don Siegelman for a seat on a stater health carepolicy board. Scrushy was acquittedr of criminal charges in the HealthSouth fraudcin 2005.
