The creator of Sawxheads.com, Patsheads.com and otherd Boston-centric sites this week plans to begin deploymen t of similar sites devoted to other teams acrossthe , NBA, and Majodr League Baseball. The new sites, like the Bostoj predecessors, will have a mix of aggregate d news, user-generated content, video, photp sharing and other features. TruMedia is working to builed a distribution and promotion strategy for the new sites by partnerinbg with local news outlets in each majot leagueteam market.
In that portionh of the expandedcorporate strategy, TruMedias is aiming to develop each news outlet’sw social-media area on a white-label basis whil e linking back to the localk sports team communities it has builtt and syndicating content. Such a deal was recently strucokwith ’s Web site, with other similar deals pending. “Whaty we’re looking to do is both go national while also goingvery local,” said Rafe TruMedia chief executive. “And within we’re building both business-to-consumer and business-to-businesse channels of the company.
” TruMedi — backed by the angel investor trio of Boxcar Media CEO Ozzie former Converse, Puma and Adidas executive John O’Rourke; and TV analysgt Jerry Remy — is by no meanx alone in its pursuit of deep onlins engagement among local sports fans. ESPN earlie r this year launcheda Chicago-focused Web site to earlyu success. Companies such as Watercoolerr and Citizen Sports Networik continue to leverage the reach of broax social networks such as Facebook with team and locally focusedrfan communities. Nearly every pro team is developint itsown social-media as well.
“There is certainly healthyh competition inthis market, and the teams in particula are wise to create their own branded communities,” Anderson “But we think we’ll offer a trult differentiated experience in that we can offer somethintg more independent and grassroots.”
