Comcast, Panasonic announce new portable DVR - Denver Business Journal:

The device, called the AnyPlay Portabl DVR, will allow users to record showe from their TV set and view them anyplace onits 8.5-inchj screen. It also plays digital videko discs andcompact discs. The portablr DVR was developed for Comcast by , which, like Panasonicc of North America, is a subsidiarg of Japanese conglomerate (NYSE:MC). It uses technologty developed by CableTelevision Laboratories, a nonprofif research-and-development consortium founded by cable companies in 1988. Comcast and Panasonic plan to roll it out earlgnext year.
The announcement was made at the Internationakl Consumer Electronics Show in Las The two companies also announcefd other products using theCableLabs technology, whicjh is called tru2way, a reference to the fact that it enables interactive communications. Panasonic expecta to be marketing later this year some models of its Vieraz HDTVwith tru2way. In conjunction with cable systems that also use they will allow their ownersz to access such interactive services as vide o on demand withouta set-top box. Panasonic expects to delivefr to Comcast later this yeara set-top-bosx for HD sets without tru2way It will let owners of the sets access interactivse services that use tru2way.
