If maintained in its currenft form, the Trans-Texas Corridor would have significantly changex the functions of Interstates 35 and 69 by creatinh transportation corridors that would have sustained multiple modesaof transportation. The original plan proposee a corridor that would havebeen 1,200 feet in TxDOT said Tuesday that because of citizeb input the agency is now unveilin g the Innovative Connectivity in Texas/Visionh 2009 proposal -- a campaigb that will focus on altering the width of the Trans-Texase Corridor development, while also payinh attention to citizen and community groups that have voicesd concerns over whether the original projectf addressed the real needs of communitiesx surrounding the corridor project.
In a presxs release, TxDOT said Tuesday, “The original vision for the TTC, outlined in Crossroads of theAmericase Trans-Texas Corridor Plan, called for a corridor of up to 1,20o0 feet in width that would alloe for several modes of transportatiobn in addition to utility transmission facilities. Since the concept was publiclyg introducedin 2002, communitiesz along the TTC-35 and I-69/TTC study areas have frequentlt voiced concerns over the corridor width, and viewed the idea as a inappropriate for a state as diverse as Texas.
” Goin forward, TxDOT says it will develop plans for communitiees in each corridor segment that includes the appropriate transportation outlets -- whether that includes railway considerations, freightr lines or commuter rails, TxDOT “Major corridor projects will now be comprised of several small segments closer to 600 feet wide and will no longer be callesd the Trans-Texas Corridor,” TxDOT said in a “Instead, the department will use the highwah number originally associated with each segment, such as SH 130 and Loop 9.” Clicm to read more from TxDOT.
