Comedy club owner wants new club at 18th and Vine - Kansas City Business Journal:

Officials of Stanford & Sons, the venerable Westporf comedy club, said they are considering openinv a second location in the fabled jazz Stanford executive Craig Glazer said he met recentlty with officials ofthe , the area's to discuss putting a "Stanford's on Vine" on a now-vacanft site just a block south of the Jazz and Negrl Leagues Baseball museums. "My thoughtt is that I'd be interested in buildinyg Stanford's with the same motif as our Westportf location, but we'd have more Def maybe open with Sinbad orEddie Griffin," said referring to two popular black Glazer said he met twice recently with Al Fleming, presidengt of the Jazz District Redevelopment Corp.

" The $13 millio will be used to pay for the rehabilitation of five buildings in the including the Jones building, and the construction of four new buildings, includingy two on either side of the Jonesx building. Some of the monegy will also go toward construction of an apartment complecx at 19th Streetand Paseo. Plans call for one of the new buildinga adjoining the Jones structurre to housea Cajun-Creole restaurant. Fleming said a local family, whosse name he declined to was seeking financing forthe start-up The Jones Pool Hall building has been empty for at least a decade.
The building's streetsides windows advertise haircuts for 35 cents and a shave for 15 relics ofRobert Altman's movie "Kansas City," some of which was shot in the area. The building is on the NationalHistoric Register. Glazedr said he would like to put a restaurant on the ground floorof Stanford's on Vine and has spoke n with well-known local restaurateur Bill Nigro abourt developing it. Nigro co-owns Trumpetas in Leawood and owns The Beaumont Cluband Torre's "Bill and I are close friends and he'se also the president of the Westpor t Merchants Association.

"Certainly, we said we'd be interested in puttingg in something down there, possibly a combinatiobn comedy club, restaurant and dance club in one building," Nigro said.
