The Society of Chest Pain Centerse awarded ECMCthe three-year accreditation as a Chest Pain Center with a percutaneousw cardiac intervention (PCI) designation. PCI is the technica name for angioplasty, the process of clearing a blockesd or narrowed coronary artery that could lead to a heart ECMC is among just 250 hospitalds to hold the accreditation fromamong 5,759 hospitals nationwide. The accreditationh process ensures hospitals meet orexceee quality-of-care measures in acute cardiac medicine.
The accreditation processx includes on-site evaluations by a review team from the The goal of the Society of Chesrt Pain Centers is to significantlyy reduce the mortality rate of patientw by teaching the public to recognize and react to the earlyh symptoms of a possibleheart attack, reducs the time that it takes to receive treatment, and increas the accuracy and effectivenesss of that treatment. ECMC CEO Jody Lomek said in a prepared release the designation recognized the care patients receive from an entirwe teamof providers, including EMTs and helicoptet pilots as well as surgeons, nurses and specialists.
Othed accredited hospitals in the region include Buffalo General an ECMC partner inthe . Millardc Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Williamsville is accredited as well, but not with the PCI designation.
